Biography
Karitzamar Baez-Maldonado is an Immigration Attorney originally from Hatillo, Puerto Rico. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Forensic Sciences from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. Following her undergraduate studies, Karitzamar attended the University of Puerto Rico School of Law (UPR), where she developed a profound interest in Immigration Law. During her tenure at UPR, she actively participated in the UPR Immigration Clinic, where she prepared and achieved an asylum application based on a novel legal theory asserting that Venezuelan migrants constitute a particular social group persecuted by Venezuelan authorities. As a student practitioner, she represented clients in various immigration matters, including but not limited to asylum, adjustment of status, VAWA petitions, employment authorization, and cancellation of removal.
While pursuing her legal education, Karitzamar simultaneously held two part-time positions: Law Clerk at a firm specializing in civil law and torts, and Compliance Officer at a boutique human resources firm. In 2020, she earned her Juris Doctor degree and began her career as an Attorney Consultant. In this role, she advised the Puerto Rico Department of Economic Development on tax incentives under the Act 60, which included export services, manufacturing incentives, among other areas.
Despite acquiring many accomplishments in tax and civil law, her true and enduring passion for Immigration Law led her to return to this field in 2024 after passing the Puerto Rico Bar. She started focusing on representing clients in VAWA, T Visa, and U Visa cases. However, her diverse experience across immigration law, civil law, and tax law; inspired her to pursue another significant passion—Latin Music and Entertainment. For this reason, she enrolled in the University of Miami, in the Legal Aspects of Music Business Certificate program and is currently applying her expertise within the Immigration Division at Hachar Law Group. Here,
she represents artists in various immigration processes, including but not limited to O-1B Visas, O-2 Visas, P-2 Visas, and much more.
